Google to publicly track accidents involving self-driving cars
Google will now disclose accidents involving its self-driving cars. Monthly reports are published in which, among other things, the accidents involving the test cars are described. Earlier there was concern about security.
A website has been opened where information about self-driving cars can be found. New reports are posted there every month: currently only the report from last month is available. However, it also contains all accidents that have occurred in the past. According to Google, those accidents happened through no fault of the self-driving car. The main cause was a rear-end collision.
Furthermore, in its reports, Google provides information about what it encountered on the road that month. For example, the activity of that month is displayed and the company discusses interesting traffic situations. According to Google, the self-driving car averages about 16,000 kilometers every week.
Google has probably decided to be more open about its tests with the self-driving car because there was previously unrest about it. The AP news agency reported that self-driving cars were involved in multiple accidents, but the internet giant then emphasized that the car itself was not to blame.
