Google to make exporting Chrome passwords easier

Google is going to make it easier to export passwords stored in Chrome browser. This should, for example, facilitate the transition to a password manager.

In an announcement, “Chromium evangelist” François Beaufort writes that the feature should be available soon, without giving an exact release date. He reports that the feature makes it possible to export the passwords to a CSV file, which can then be used to import the passwords with a password manager.

People who want to use the export feature right now can switch to Chrome’s dev channel and search for the term “passwords” in the settings, Beaufort said. It is currently already possible to manage and view passwords in Chrome, but there is no direct export option. For people with a lot of passwords, this means that a possible migration takes a lot of time.

Apart from the method Beaufort describes, it is possible to export passwords in the stable Chrome browser by enabling this function in the Chrome flags. As a result, the function becomes available after a browser restart and a csv export can be performed after entering the password of the OS user account.
