Google to integrate Meet video calls into Docs, Sheets and Slides

Google will integrate its video conferencing service Meet into Docs, Sheets and Slides. The company announced this at its own developer conference I/O. Google also comes with new functions for Workspace under the name Smart Canvas.

Smart Canvas should make it possible to manage projects with colleagues, divide tasks and see who thinks which idea is best, says Google. It appears to be a new tool for Workspace that is separate from Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

With the integration of Meet in Docs, Slides and Sheets it becomes possible to collaborate on a file with a video call in the window itself. That should make collaboration better, Google thinks.

Meet also gets more options for the window. For example, users can choose to enlarge certain people when they present to see the reaction. The new features will come to Workspace later this year. More details will be announced in the coming weeks. Google will hold its opening keynote for the digital version of its developer conference I/O on Tuesday evening.
