Google tests Gmail app for iOS with support for mail from other accounts
Gmail has started offering a beta for its iOS version of Gmail, in which users can add accounts based on Outlook.com and imap, among others. That feature has been in the Android version of Gmail for a few years now.
google calls Twitter users to sign up for the beta, which runs through Apple’s TestFlight platform. It is the first time that the search giant is distributing a beta of an iOS app via TestFlight, Techcrunch notes.
With the trial version, users can receive mail from imap accounts via the app, as well as mails from Outlook.com, Yahoo and various other webmail services. In Gmail for Android it is also possible to add Exchange accounts. It is unknown whether this will also be possible in the iOS version.
The function to receive mail from sources other than Gmail has been in Android since 2014. Google released its Gmail app for iOS in 2011. It is unknown when a stable version of Gmail with support for third-party accounts will appear in the App Store.
