Google teaser for Pixel announcement on May 7
Google has posted a teaser online for an announcement in the Pixel line on May 7. On that date, the search giant will also have its keynote address at its developer conference I/O. There have been rumors for months about two cheaper Pixel phones.
The teaser is in an announcement of the arrival of Playmoji, the augmented reality characters in Google’s camera app, from Avengers. “Something big is coming to the Pixel universe on May 7,” the company said in its announcement. This does not concern the Playmoji, which can be used from Tuesday.
The most logical announcement is that of the cheaper Pixel smartphones. These already appeared on Google’s own site, while information, photos and videos of the phones have appeared here and there since November last year. The phones were then still known under the name Pixel 3 Lite.
Previous screenshots from the Play Console show that the devices both have 4GB of RAM and run on Android 9. One device has a screen resolution of 1080 x 2160 with a pixel density of 400dpi, which equates to a screen diagonal of around 6″. The other is 1080 x 2220, 440dpi and ultimately about 5.6″ in diagonal. According to previous rumors, the Pixel 3a will cost around 450 euros, the device has a Snapdragon 670 or 710 soc, a 3.5 mm jack, an OLED screen without notches.
