Google stops producing Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G

Google has stopped producing its Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G smartphones. The company made this known in a statement to tech website The Verge. The company introduced a Pixel 5a earlier this week and will launch a Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro this fall.

Earlier there were indications that Google would stop the production and sale of its Pixel 5 and 4a 5G smartphones. The devices were already sold out in Google’s own web store in America and the phones also disappeared from the Google Fi store, 9to5Google noted at the end of July. The company now confirms to The Verge that the phones are no longer in production and that only the last stocks are currently being sold.

“Using our current forecasts, we expect the Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5 to sell out in the US Google Store in the coming weeks after the Pixel 5a (5G) launches. These products will continue to be available through some partners as long as stocks last,” said a company spokesperson. The phones will continue to receive updates at least until the end of 2023. Google also stopped selling its Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL devices in August of last year, nearly two months before the release of the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a.

The Google Pixel 4a 5G was succeeded by the Pixel 5a 5G smartphone earlier this month, so it’s not surprising that the production of 4a devices is being stopped. At the same time, the Pixel 5 5G is not yet available in Europe, while that was the case with the Pixel 4a smartphones. Later this year, Google will also launch its Pixel 6 smartphones, which will fall in a higher market segment than the Pixel 5.
