‘Google stops developing VR glasses that should have been released next year’
Google has reportedly stopped developing the Project Iris VR headset that was supposed to be released next year. Google prefers to focus on the software, which should become a kind of Android for VR, AR and XR.

Instead of Project Iris, Google focuses on collaboration with Samsung and Qualcomm, claims Insider. The companies announced this collaboration in February, but there have been no updates since then. Google is working on the software.
Information about Project Iris first became public a year and a half ago. Clay Bover, who according to information at the time was in charge of the project, left Google four months ago. Google’s layoffs also affected the Project Iris team.
According to the rumor, Project Iris should have been VR glasses like the Apple Vision Pro, which works with cameras to show the outside world. Then the interface would come on top of that. Google has not confirmed the information.
