Google’s hardware team has stopped developing its own tablets. The search giant has announced this. Instead, the software giant focuses on smartphones with Android and laptops with Chrome OS.

Google’s top man for hardware Rick Osterloh confirmed the stop with tablets, but at the same time stressed that the search giant would continue to support the 2018 Pixel Slate with updates. Google will also continue to support other companies that want to make tablets with Android or Chrome OS, Osterloh said.

Computerworld claims that the American company was working on two smaller tablets, but that it has stopped developing them. Those smaller tablets would be standalone tablets and not products like the Pixel Slate with a clickable keyboard.

Google will continue to work on laptops such as the Pixelbook. Also, the hardware maker will continue to release products in its Pixel series of phones and Nest line of smart home products. For the Pixel Slate with Chrome OS in 2018, the search giant released a few Android tablets. That was the Pixel C tablet in 2015, while in the distant past the company made the Nexus 7 tablets and had a 10″ variant in the form of the Nexus 10.
