Google Stadia controller gets bluetooth function
Google will release a ‘do it yourself tool’ next week to give Stadia controllers Bluetooth support. The streaming service will go offline from January 18, but with a Bluetooth function, the controller could be used for other purposes.
So far it remains with an announcement of the bluetooth function and Google promises next week explaining more about how users can enable the feature. Basically, after the update, customers got a free “universal” controller, as Google refunds all software and hardware purchases. There is no refund arrangement for the continuous Google Stadia Pro subscription only.
For the time being, the Google Stadia controller would no longer have been usable wirelessly after the gaming service stopped, since the Bluetooth chip is disabled by default. That is why the controller can only be used via WiFi in combination with Google’s service. With a Bluetooth update, on the other hand, the controller could also be connected wirelessly to PCs and smartphones, for example. Currently, this is already possible with a cable.
In September of 2022, it was announced that Google would pull the plug on Stadia. From that moment on, customers could no longer purchase new games via the platform, but they could still stream games via Google’s servers. From January 18, that will no longer be possible and the entire Stadia service will stop.
Until then, customers can try one last new game. Worm Game is a Snake-like game that was used as an internal test game even before the service’s release in 2019. Google writes: “The game won’t win a Game of the Year award, but the Stadia team has spent an enormous amount of time with this game and we wanted to share that with you. Thanks for playing, and thanks for everything.”
You might have seen one last game arrive on Stadia today. It’s a humble 🧡 thanks 💜 for playing from our team.
