Google seems to want to rename Cast to Chromecast built-in

Google seems to be replacing its Cast brand name with Chromecast built-in. Cast is the name for the built-in Chromecast functionality in speakers and TVs, among other things. The dongles have always been called Chromecast.

This is how Google got the name on Twitter changed from Cast to Chromecast. Also on the Google site is now a mention of a new name. “Google Cast, also known as Chromecast built-in,” Variety notes.

Google introduced the name Cast a few years ago to describe the protocol by which the Chromecast dongle streams images to TVs. Until now, even with TVs and speakers that contain the technology, this is called Google Cast.

It is unknown why the search giant is making the name change. Variety estimates that in this way Google lets you know that it is mainly about putting forward its own dongles.
