Google seems to have scrapped Chrome for phones without touchscreen
A commit points out that Google has scrapped a version of its Chrome browser for phones without touchscreens. It would be in development for a Nokia phone with Android, but without a touchscreen.
The commit that 9to5Google found shows that Google is stripping all code for the “touchless” version of Chrome except Blink. Blink is the name of the browser engine that Google uses for the project. According to the site, hundreds of folders for the touchscreen-less version of Chrome have been deleted from the code.
It is unknown why Google did that. The version for Android phones without a touchscreen was never announced. It seems that the intention was for Nokia to release a phone in the form of a feature phone and Android, with the version of the browser on it. It is unknown if that project will continue. Google has not responded to the information. Android once ran on phones without a touchscreen before the release of version 1.0, but the browser that was on it then was not based on Chrome.
