Google seems to be working on way to boot different OS on Pixelbook laptop
Google appears to be working on a way to install and boot a second operating system on a Pixelbook laptop. A response to a commit seems to indicate that Windows may be such an alternative operating system.
Google calls the feature AltOS, redditor -nbsp- noted in a post mocking Android Police. It appears that AltOS displays a screen on startup where users can choose between Chrome OS, which comes standard on the Pixelbook, and AltOS. One of the comments on the commit refers to go/vboot-windows, indicating that Google thinks of Windows as AltOS.
Google hasn’t commented on the find in the commits yet. Earlier it appeared that Google is working on a way to run Linux programs in a container, Chrome Unboxed wrote. The Pixelbook currently only runs on Google’s own operating system.
It’s possible that adding AltOS should provide an easy way to test Fuchsia. Google’s still secret operating system works on a Pixelbook, but very cumbersome. Support for another OS would presumably make installing Fuchsia easier. Google has not released the Pixelbook in the Benelux
