Google search function briefly offline due to unknown error – update

Google’s search engine has been offline for a short time due to an unknown cause. Other Google services, such as Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Drive, were still available. It’s rare for Google to be down.

Google’s error page gave no reason for the outage; the error page kept it to an ‘error 500’, the error code for an internal server error. Other Google services have no known problems; only the search engine cannot be reached.

Update, 11:45 AM: Many users report that the outage is now over.
