Google rolls out Android 4.1 for Nexus devices and Motorola Xoom

Google has announced that it has started rolling out Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to a number of devices. Owners of a Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S and Motorola’s Xoom tablet will receive the new software in the coming days.

The update is coming to users over-the-air and the rollout has now started, Google announced via its own Plus network. It can take a few days for the software to reach everyone. In addition to the latest version of the Android operating system, users also get the Google Now application. This system automatically tries to present relevant information to users and can be controlled by voice.

According to Google, the update will roll out simultaneously for the smartphones Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S. The Motorola Xoom tablet will also receive the new Android version. This makes them the first devices to receive Android 4.1, while the recently introduced Nexus 7 tablet with this version of the mobile OS will also go on sale in a number of countries.

Google previously provided the source code of its new mobile OS, which, among others, makers of custom ROMs can get started. Android 4.1 brings improved notifications, offline speech recognition and should feel smoother due to changes to the way the interface and applications are rendered.
