Google replaces Pay in Benelux with Wallet app
Google will replace its Pay app in the Benelux and many other countries with a new app called Wallet. In addition to payment methods, this Wallet must also contain space for, for example, customer cards and boarding cards for aircraft, says the search giant.
By combining those functions in an app, they should be more easily accessible for users, says Google. In addition to payment methods, flight details and loyalty cards, QR codes to prove corona vaccinations must also be available in the app.
This means that the app should replace the physical wallet. The app is similar to Apple Wallet, which has been on iPhones since iOS 9 from 2015. Before that, it had existed as a Passbook since 2012. There is now no central app for loyalty cards and boarding passes on Android.
Google is not going to replace Pay with Wallet everywhere. The United States and Singapore both get apps, while Wallet in India is not coming out at all. Google announced the arrival of the app at its developer conference I/O. Wallet will be released this summer, but Google didn’t mention an exact date.
