The Google G Suite service will from now on be known as Google Workspace. The name change also includes new logos for G Suite services, such as Gmail and Docs. Google also wants to integrate the services more with each other and add additional functions. With the name change to Google Workspace, the previously announced integration of Gmail, Chat, Rooms and Meet is available to all business customers. Users can now compose emails, create rooms and start video meetings from one app. This integrated app should become available to consumers in the coming months, Google now says. Starting today, users will also be able to use the @ sign to name someone in a document, with a pop-up showing contact information about the person, and Google is also announcing new features. For example, customers and partners who have access to the Chat function via a guest account should be able to create a document together via Chat in the future. That way, according to Google, it should be easier to communicate and share information with contacts outside a company. In addition, it should soon be possible to preview a linked file in Docs, Sheets and Slides without having to open a new tab. The Meet function picture-in-picture, where users in Gmail and Chat can video call via a pop-up window, is also being expanded to Docs, Sheets and Slides. According to Google, the name change in Workspace should show users and customers that the applications connected and more integrated with each other. The logos of the Workspace applications will therefore be changed and will have the same color scheme as the current Google logo. The new logos will be introduced in the coming weeks; it is not clear whether these logos will also apply to consumer apps. Google Workspace will be available to education and nonprofit customers in the coming months. For business customers, there is also a new Business Plus subscription, which gives 3TB more storage per user and allows 100 more participants in Meet meetings than the existing Business Standard subscription.
