Google removes QuickOffice from download stores
Google is removing QuickOffice from the Play Store and the App Store, the company has announced. The search giant acquired QuickOffice in 2012, but the app’s functionality is now built into the Docs, Slides, and Sheets apps.
Google announced at its I/O developer conference in San Francisco that the functionality of QuickOffice, which enables editing text documents, presentations, and spreadsheets on mobile devices, was added by default to its Docs and Sheets apps. In addition, Google introduced a Slides app that allows editing presentations.
A direct result of this is that QuickOffice will be removed from the App Store and Play Store, as it turns out. Existing users who have already installed the app can continue to use it, but no longer have to rely on updates. It is no longer possible for new users to install the app.
Google took over the maker of QuickOffice more than two years ago. The company then made the app free; first only for business Google Apps users, then for all users. On the other hand, Google removed support for storage services other than Google Drive.
