Google releases preview of ‘sports’ SDk Fit

Google has released a preview of its fitness-focused Fit SDk. Using that SDK, developers can create apps that can read history of pedometers and heart rate monitors, among other things.

The SDK only works on Android L, the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system that users of the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 from 2013 can put on their device. With the SDK developers can, among other things, use APIs to read data about heart rate and sports activity on the device; those APIs are not there yet. It does not matter whether sensors are on the device or on a connected wearable, such as a fitness bracelet, Google writes.

The preview of the sdk comes with new builds of Android L; which were compiled a few days after the original ones that came online back in June. The build number isn’t much different either. With that, it looks like it’s a minor change to support the preview SDK. The update isn’t coming to Android L users over-the-air; flashing it requires erasing all data from the device and connecting the phone or tablet to a PC.
