Google releases new version of My Maps for Android
Google has revived its My Maps app for creating personalized maps. The app uses map data from Google Maps, but is otherwise a standalone app.
No updates had been released for My Maps since 2014, making it seem as if Google no longer supported the app. Now a major update has appeared that brings the design in line with the other recent Google apps. Not only the appearance is new, Google says it has rebuilt the app from the ground up.
With My Maps, users can create their own maps of, for example, a holiday destination. It is possible to save locations on different layers, add descriptions and share the map with others. Then routes can easily be loaded to the saved locations. My Maps can also be accessed via a web interface.
