Google releases lightweight alternative to Photos app
Google has released a new lightweight photo application. Gallery Go is a faster alternative to Google Photos, in the same style as Maps Go and YouTube Go. The app also works offline as a photo gallery.
Officially, the app is called Gallery Go by Google Photos. It looks a lot like the Photos app, but is smaller and has fewer features. However, Gallery Go can do the most important things that Photos can do. The app can automatically enhance photos and add filters, and users can organize their photos into folders and tags. The app can also automatically divide photos into categories, such as selfies or nature photos, using the same algorithms as Google Photos. However, the feature to recognize specific faces does not work in the app.
With the app, Google mainly focuses on countries with less good internet. It did that before with apps like Maps and YouTube as well. There is even a lightweight version of the search app itself available. The app can also be used offline and only takes up ten megabytes on a phone. It must at least run on Android 8.1, but there are no further minimum download requirements.
