Google has started releasing ChromeOS 92 for Chromebooks. The new version of the operating system has, among other things, an emoji picker and eSIM support.

ChromeOS 92 will be pushed to Chromebooks in the coming weeks with a number of new features. For example, the operating system will receive additional support for eSIM. On compatible Chromebooks, including the Acer Spin 513 and the Acer Chromebook 511, eSIM settings can be downloaded to switch between different telecom providers, without having to use a physical SIM card. A QR code can also be used to quickly connect.

In addition to eSIM support, ChromeOS 92 will include virtual desktops for Android and Linux apps, and Linux app support will be out of beta after three years. In addition to giving the virtual desktops the ability to set up different desktops for certain tasks, such as work and gaming, Android and Linux apps can be assigned to specific desktops.

In addition, the new version of the OS will get expanded emoji choices, with access to many more emoji than before. The entire virtual keyboard of ChromeOS will be expanded, including an extensive clipboard manager, where five different items, including screenshots, can be stored.

In ChromeOS 92 it is also possible to use an improved speech-to-text app. The download assistant, formerly Holding Space, has also been expanded. Tote, as the feature is called, processes downloads from Android apps and print-to-PDF files from Chrome in addition to regular downloads. Tote has an icon in the system tray at the bottom right.

ChromeOS 92 also gets a number of new background images, the option to always run a VPN and live captioning for videos, also offline. Also, the scanner app now creates searchable PDF files and the ChromeOS camera app has support for pan, tilt and zoom functionality. In addition, Google Chat and Google Meet are now installed by default in ChromeOS.
