Google releases augmented reality game Ingress for iOS
Google has released its augmented reality game Ingress for iOS. The Android version was released in November 2012. In Ingress, players worldwide compete in two teams and have to perform actions in physical locations.
The game Ingress was developed by Niantic Labs, a startup within Google. The missions in the game, which can be played worldwide, have to do with accessible objects such as works of art and famous buildings. There are ‘portals’ that players have to conquer.
The game not only works in an app, but at home behind the computer, users can get a broader perspective of the playing field. The game makers earn money through advertisements in the game, which are, for example, affiliated with physical shops and catering establishments.
The game can be played on both iPhone and iPad, but players have to find locations themselves, where GPS and 3G are then needed for the game; not all iPads have that. The developer previously announced that Ingress would be released for iOS.
