Google has started releasing the final version of Android 7.0 Nougat for the Nexus 6, 9, 5X, 6P, Pixel C and Nexus Player. Furthermore, Google announces that the LG V20 will be the first new smartphone that runs on the new Android version.

Google reports that Monday will start sending the ota update to the Nexus devices. It may take up to several weeks for all users to receive the update. At the time of writing, the images are not yet available, but will likely be available Monday night via Google’s Developers page.

Android 7.0 Nougat includes a split-screen mode, a new notification display with the ability to respond instantly, support for the vulkan API, a data saver function, and an option to resize text and interface elements. The battery-saving Doze function has been improved and should now also work while the smartphone is in a pocket or bag.

Also, Android 7.0 has a Virtual Reality mode, which will work in conjunction with smartphones that meet Daydream specifications. There is also a Work mode, with which certain apps and notifications can be associated. By subsequently switching this mode on or off, it should be possible to better separate work and private life.

The Google Nexus 5 and the Nexus 7 from 2013 will not receive an update to Android 7.0. This became apparent earlier when Google did not release the preview versions for this smartphone and tablet. In addition to the aforementioned Nexus and Pixel hardware, the General Mobile 4G also immediately gets the update to the new Android version. Previews were also available for this device.

Google also refers to the upcoming LG V20 and reports that it is the first new smartphone to be released with Android 7.0 Nougat. LG itself already announced that this should be the new flagship of the manufacturer and renders have appeared that show the appearance of the V20. LG will officially present the device on September 6.
