Google provides Photos app with map and changed interface
Google has given the mobile apps of its Photos service a makeover. The interface has been reduced to three tabs, for photos, search and collection. In addition, a floor plan function has been integrated and there are more Memories functions.
By default, the app still opens on the photos tab with thumbnails of photos and videos, but Google will also show Memories here from now on. Google began displaying this selection of previously shot images arranged by subject last year, and the company is now adding new categories such as photos of the user and friends and highlights from a week earlier.
In addition to the photos tab, there is now the search tab and the floor plan is incorporated in this section. Users can see where photos and videos were taken and zoom in on the location. Users must have the location enabled in their camera settings for this.
Finally, there is a tab for the user’s library, with albums, favorites and the option to print the photos. Collages and stylized photos can also be found under this tab. The For you tab is gone. To emphasize the magnitude of the update, Google has also changed the Photos logo.
The updated app is available immediately for Android and iOS.
