Google provides Gmail app for Android partly with dark mode

Google has begun implementing a dark mode in its Gmail app for Android devices. Previously, apps such as Calendar, Contacts and Calculator have already received such a makeover and in Android Q a dark mode will be available for the entire interface.

Gmail’s dark mode, which has been provided since Thursday, is clearly still a work in progress version, according to Android Police’s report. For example, the dark theme that has received the update is only available for the settings screen of the app; The main screen and the sidebar will not change for the time being.

Gmail’s dark theme sometimes turns itself on and off automatically, and the user has no control over that, simply because there is no dark mode switch. However, it is expected that Google will make one or more updates to Gmail before the arrival of Android Q, which is planned for August, so that the dark theme will also be fully functional in this app in time.

Dark mode is on the rise at both Google and Apple; iOS 13 will also get a dark theme, Apple recently announced. Prior to the new operating system Android Q, Google is gradually equipping all its apps with a dark mode. That new mode isn’t just a matter of taste; a dark theme would be easier on the eyes, especially at night, while also saving some power.
