Google processes Google Meet in Gmail for Android
Google has incorporated Google Meet, the video conferencing service, into the Gmail app on Android. At the bottom of the inbox section is a bar with buttons for email and Meet. However, the bar can be removed again.
Since the corona pandemic, Google has been trying to gain more market share for its Meet service. To this end, the Meet has already incorporated into the web interface, making the service free for anyone with a Google account and extra features and quality of life improvements implemented. Services such as Meet and Zoom have grown explosively since the outbreak of the virus.
For those who prefer to use that space on the screen for e-mails and not a bar with buttons, there is still the option to remove it. The option can be found by navigating to the settings and then to the account specific settings.
However, those who turn off the feature in Gmail are not completely excluded from Google Meet. There is simply a separate application available. Undoubtedly, with this integration, Google wants to win the race against competitors like Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Skype by using Gmail’s more than five billion installations on Android.
