The Google Play Movies & TV app now also shows some 4k movies for users to stream in the UK. The few 4k movies available in the country can only be streamed via Android devices and not via, say, the Google Play app on an LG TV.

A technology editor from Forbes left via Twitter that he had noted that there were “some 4k movies” available in the Google Play app in the UK. It concerns the titles Spider-Man: Homecoming, Concussion, Captain Philips and Passengers.

Until now, Google only offered content in 4k resolution in the US and Canada via the Play app. It’s not clear whether Google has plans to expand its 4k video offerings through the Play app to other countries; the company has not officially said anything about it yet.

The 4k movies in Google Play in the UK do not yet have HDR support, while HDR is already available in the US and Canada. Apple added 4k movies with HDR support to iTunes in September. Not only is HDR10 supported, but also Dolby Vision. In addition, Apple will update previously purchased full HD movies at no additional cost once the 4k version is available; at Google Play this is usually only possible for an additional fee.
