Google seems to be preparing to offer movies with Dolby Vision through its Play Movies service. A new version of the app contains references to Dolby Vision. Google has been offering HDR movies since 2017, but not yet in Dolby Vision.

The references to Dolby Vision are in apk version v4.17.22 of Google Play Movies, according to XDA Developers. The code points out that it can be added to the description of films and series that they use Dolby Vision.

Google itself has not yet said anything about support for Dolby Vision. In 2017, Google started offering 4k movies and series through its service. Initially, HDR support was only available in the United States, later it also came to other continents.

On its support page, Google does not mention which HDR formats are supported. In any case, no Dolby Vision material is currently offered at Play Movies.

Netflix and Disney+ support Dolby Vision. Amazon Prime Video doesn’t do that, but it does support its counterpart, hdr10+. Apple also supports Dolby Vision with movies and series via the Apple TV app or the Apple TV 4K media player, including a long list of movie titles.
