Google now releases Android 7.1.2 Developer Preview for Nexus 6P

Google has released a software update for the Nexus 6P smartphone. This brings Android 7.1.2 to the device, which was previously released for other Nexus and Pixel smartphones. Remarkably enough, the gestures for the fingerprint scanner that Google introduced earlier are missing.

The software update is a Developer Preview and therefore not yet immediately available to every owner of the Nexus 6P. 9To5Google, among others, reports that manually checking for updates can help to force downloading the software. The user must, however, participate in the development program of Google. After installation, users of the Nexus 6P will have Android 7.1.2, currently the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system.

Google previously introduced Android 7.1.2 for other smartphones in the Nexus series, as well as the Pixel series. With this Android version it is possible to use gestures on the fingerprint scanner to call up certain functions, such as viewing notifications. Remarkably, this function is missing in the update that was released for the Nexus 6P, according to 9To5Google.

Why Google has not built in this feature is not clear. However, the minor bugs previously reported for the early version of Android 7.1.2 are still in the software. This includes an issue where it is not possible to adjust the Wi-Fi settings. This will probably be fixed in the final version.
