Google Nexus 4 gets support for Android 7.1 via CyanogenMod
The development team behind CyanogenMod 14 has released a first version for the Nexus 4. This means that users of the now four-year-old smartphone will soon have Android 7.1 available. Google stopped software support some time ago.
The first builds for the custom ROM are now available on the website of CyanogenMod, the development community from which the company Cyanogen originated. For the time being, the software is labeled ‘experimental’, which means that it is probably not yet stable enough for daily use. However, due to development, it is likely that a workable version will appear in the future.
With the made available builds of CyanogenMod 14, the Nexus 4 will have access to an Android 7.1-based operating system. The official software has been updated to Android version 5.1.1, which came out about a year and a half ago. Google released the Nexus 4 about four years ago, which makes it special that CyanogenMod releases another ROM for this smartphone.
Not only the Nexus 4 has been included in the new round of Android builds. The LG G3 and the Sony Xperia M have also received support for CyanogenMod 14.1. At the beginning of this month, the first nightlies were released from CyanogenMod version 14.1, where the emphasis was still on support for relatively new smartphones.
