Google Messages shows notification when contact has birthday with new update

Google has released an update for its Messages app. This allows all users to automatically share high-resolution images to Google Photos and get notifications when a contact’s birthday is. English-speaking users will see iMessage responses as emojis.

According to Google manager Jan Jedrzejowicz English-speaking users of the Messages app will be the first to see iMessage responses as emojis. He states that users in other languages ​​will follow, although it is not clear when that will be.

Thanks to the update, all users of the Messages app will be able to take advantage of the new Google Photos integration, which means that images shared with iOS users will no longer be sent in a low resolution. Those users will also see a notification in the Messages app when one of their contacts has their birthday, that is, if they have entered that person’s birthday date in their contact list.

With the update for Messages, Google is also introducing a new feature that will notify users if they have not yet responded to a message. This feature will be made available to English speaking users first, but will come to all users later.

US and Indian users will be able to split their message inboxes into two separate categories with the Messages update: a personal message category and a business message category. These users can also choose to have messages with one-time sent passwords automatically deleted after 24 hours.

In the blog post, Google executive Jan Jedrzejowicz writes that the update addresses some of the complaints users have raised about texting conversations between Android phones and iPhones. He also calls on Apple in the blog post to support the RCS standard to further improve the user experience between the two platforms.
