Google Meet gets auto-framing option
Video chat service Google Meet will have an option to automatically frame users before joining a video meeting. The framing is done once, unless users choose to do it again.
The automatic framing can ensure that everyone is about the same size in the picture and no one is small or to the side, says Google. The framing is done with facial recognition, but it is not continuous: the function works before users join a video meeting. If a user wants to reframe themselves, they can do so in the settings.
The function does not update the framing to avoid unnecessary movement in the picture. This deviates from the framing of, for example, Center Stage or Middelpunt in iPad software. Google will release Framing from November 2. Business users who have a rapid release domain will be able to see it starting this weekend.
