Google Maps gets eco-friendly routes and Immersive View
At its annual Google I/O keynote, Google announced new features for Google Maps, including Immersive View and eco-friendly routes in Europe. The functionality is expected to be available later this year.
One of the first things Google will announce during its keynote are two features we can expect to see in Google Maps later this year. Through machine learning, Google claims it can generate detailed 3D images of known locations and show what the company Immersive View mentions.
During the demonstration, Google shows a part of central London as it should be shown via Immersive View. In addition to a more detailed representation of what you see on the street, Immersive View should also show the interior of, for example, restaurants.
Google announces Immersive View for later this year. The first cities where this will be available are Los Angeles, London, New York, San Francisco and Tokyo. The tech giant wants to expand this to more cities in the long term.
In addition, Google wants to bring its eco-route finding feature to more countries. The feature is already available in North America, but is also coming to Europe this year. When planning a route in Google Maps by car, users can select the route that consumes the least fuel in addition to the fastest route.
