Google makes .page domain available for registrations
Google begins opening up the .page top-level domain for registrations. From October 9, anyone can register .page domains, until that time it is an Early Access period in which domains can be purchased for an additional cost.
According to Google, the price will drop during the Early Access period as general availability approaches. At the time of writing, a .page domain costs more than ten thousand euros at domain registrar name.com. Every day that price drops considerably and with general availability it comes to about ten euros.
Several domain names have already been assigned, such as home.page and front.page, which belong to an artist and a software company respectively. The TLD is also used by famous people such as actress ellen.page and Google co-founder larry.page.
Since August 27, companies and brands have been able to claim a .page domain by claiming their brand name. The top-level domain is on the hsts preload list, making https mandatory for all connections to .page websites.
Earlier this year, Google opened its .app domain to registrations. Google acquired that domain in 2015 for $25 million. The search giant owns more TLDs, which are not available to third parties. These include .google, .gmail, .docs, .drive and .android.
