Google makes 1440p resolution option available for Chrome version of Stadia

Google gives users of its game streaming service Stadia the ability to stream games in a 1440p resolution. This is mainly to prevent users using a monitor that can handle a high resolution from being stuck with 1080p.

Google reports that it has since added this 1440p streaming option for those using Stadia via the Chrome browser. “Players using a screen with a resolution between 1440p and 4k will be able to stream up to 1440p instead of 1080p, provided they meet all the other requirements to play in 4k resolution,” the company wrote. These conditions include a minimum network speed of 35Mbit/s and a Stadia Pro subscription.

Google has not yet updated its information page about bandwidth, among other things, with the expected amount of data usage at 1440p. At 1080p it’s up to 12.6GB per hour and at 4k it goes up to 20GB per hour. If the resolution is limited to 720p, according to Google, a maximum of 4.5GB per hour is consumed.

The company also announced that Elder Scrolls Online will be available for free to Stadia Pro users on June 16. The Morrowind Chapter is also present. In addition, crossplay between Stadia and the PC is supported and the progression between both systems can be transferred. Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath is also available now, as is Ranked Mode in PUBG, although the latter is only accessible via a controller. Finally, Google reports that from this week the games Jotun: Valhalla Edition and Sundered: Eldritch Edition can be purchased for Stadia.
