Google lets users turn off automatic night mode in Pixel camera app

Google lets users turn off the feature to automatically turn on night mode. That setting will then be saved after the camera app is restarted. Until now, the app forgot if users didn’t want an automatic night mode.

That the app keeps the setting has been working since version 8.1.200.352609439 of Google Camera app, claims 9to5Google. That version appeared on the Play Store this week and is gradually coming to all compatible phones. The automatic night mode is one of the new features of the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G. There’s a button at the bottom of the screen to turn off the automatic night mode, which is called Night Sight, and it stays off.

Many users had asked for it, because the software turns on night mode by default when the camera detects low light. In some cases, users don’t want to use the night mode at all, for example because they want to capture something darker or because they are afraid that the slower shutter speed of some frames will not make the photo better. Night mode is a feature that can still be manually enabled in the Camera app after disabling automatic detection. The Pixel phones came out last fall.
