Google lets G Suite customers choose whether data is stored in Europe or US
Google gives organizations that use G Suite the ability to choose where data is stored. The choice is worldwide, Europe or the US. For the time being, this concerns the data from Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Hangouts, Chat, Docs, Sheets, slides and Vault.
G Suite Business, Enterprise and Enterprise for Education customers will have the ability to choose where their documents and files are stored, Google said in an announcement. Administrators can change the location via the administration panel. There is no minimum number of users and it is possible to change the data location at any time. If organizations want to move their data, this will happen within a period of ‘months’. The feature should be available to all users within 15 days.
It is possible to assign different organizational units to a data region. Multiple regions can also be linked to a domain. Google has put information online on its G Suite admin pages with details on how to set the storage region.
Google announced more changes to G Suite on Tuesday. New tools are coming to the security center that allow admins to identify users who are potentially infected. In addition, Gmail’s Smart Reply feature is coming to Hangouts Chat.
