Google is working on dock to use Pixel smartphone as a smart display
Google is planning to release a dock for the Pixel smartphones, which makes it possible to use the device as a smart display. Among other things, Assistant could then be used without having to unlock the smartphone.
The dock would be called Pixel Stand, but has not yet been officially announced by Google. However, 9To5Google has found references to the dock in the code of a new version of the Google application; some code strings refer to the Pixel Stand and give a glimpse of what the device can do.
According to 9To5Google, it is probably a dock that can charge the Pixel smartphones wirelessly. After pairing, the device is recognized as a kind of smart display, in which the voice and information service Assistant plays a major role. With this, Google seems to be responding to the introduction of smart displays, of which Lenovo announced the first models last week.
Google may release the Pixel Stand with the announcement of the upcoming Pixel 3 smartphones. It is suspected that the internet giant will announce the devices in the autumn. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will probably get a Snapdragon 845-soc, and a screen of 5.4″ and 6.2″ in diagonal respectively. Renders of the suspected smartphones have already been released earlier.
