‘Google is working on an AI function for rewriting texts in Google Chrome’
In code review tool Chromium Gerrit, references were found to an AI function that rewrites selected texts. This suggests that Google is working on such a feature. A similar feature is also available in Microsoft’s Edge browser.
Leopeva64, a user of the social medium shares a screenshot of the references. The feature would be, just like the similar ones Microsoft Edge feature, possibly renamed Compose. In the test version of the browser, Chrome Canary, a flag was also found to enable the AI function. XDA Developers According to them, the feature was not yet working in Chrome Canary.
The feature should allow desktop users to have selected pieces of text rewritten. The tone and length of the text, among other things, can be adjusted by the AI tool. The user can probably accept, reject or change the AI’s suggestion.
Google is reportedly planning to bring the feature to iOS and Android. The feature should also support other languages in addition to English at a later date. It is not clear when the feature will be rolled out more widely.
There’s a feature in Edge that lets you rewrite text using AI, well, Google is working on a similar feature for Chrome, on Gerrit it’s called “Compose” and, just like in Edge, there will be a bubble with options to change the tone and length of the text: pic.twitter.com/6hTXEi63CJ
