‘Google is working on a new design for Gmail with a tab structure’
Google seems to be working on a new interface for Gmail. Screenshots show that the e-mail service is provided with various tabs that automatically sort messages. There will be tabs for emails from stores and mailing lists or forums, among other things.
The screenshots were put online by The Next Web, who also claims having heard from unspecified sources that the new design should be rolled out in the coming weeks. The new design would be used for both mobiles and the web version of Gmail. The biggest change is the introduction of tabs. This will automatically sort email into different categories.
According to The Next Web, the Main tab is for emails that come from family, friends, and messages that don’t fit into all other categories. In addition, there is the Social tab for posts from social networking sites, Offers for emails from merchants and promotion websites, Notifications for important notification messages and finally Forums for emails from forums and mailing lists.
Google declined to confirm rumors of a new Gmail design, but it’s not the first time rumors about this have surfaced. During the I/O meeting came there are also already screenshots out of a new Gmail interface. Then a new navigation bar was shown.
