Google is enabling Matter support on all Android smartphones and tablets

Google has enabled Matter support on all Android phones and its Nest smart home products. This has been announced by the search giant. There are hardly any smart home products with Matter support available for sale.

Matter now works with Fast Pair on Android, says Google. This makes it possible for smart home products to work together with tablets and phones on Android by going through the setup in the same way as it has been done with headphones so far. If a Matter product is looking for a connection, the user will automatically see the screen to complete the setup on Android.

Nest products from Google also work with Matter thanks to an update. This makes it possible to operate all compatible smart home products, even if they are already set up on another smart home platform. That function is called Multi Admin. In addition, some Nest products, such as the Nest Hub Max and the second-generation Nest Hub, can function as a Border Router for Thread. Thread is a communication protocol for smart home products.
