Google is adding Apple Music support to speakers with Google Assistant
Google is adding support for Apple’s Music service to smart speakers with the Google Assistant, including the company’s Nest speakers. These speakers already support other music services such as Spotify or YouTube Music.
The support will be rolled out in phases in various countries from Monday, Google reports. For the time being, the rollout will start in the US, UK, France, Germany and Japan. Users who get the feature can turn on the support by linking their Apple Music account in the Google Home app.
Users can set Apple’s music streaming service as the default service for playing music on their smart speakers. With the support, users can listen to their Apple Music playlists among other things via voice commands. Individual songs, albums or artists can also be listened to. In addition, the multi-room function is supported, which allows users to stream music from the Apple Music service to multiple Google Assistant speakers within a household.
In addition to Apple Music, the Google Assistant already supports music streaming services from various parties. In addition to Google’s own YouTube Music, third-party services are also supported, such as Spotify, Deezer and Pandora. For the time being, however, support for Tidal and Amazon Music is lacking.
