Google introduces Yellow Pages-like functionality in San Francisco

Google has built a database of handymen like locksmiths, electricians and plumbers for people in and around San Francisco to easily connect these professionals with local residents. The handymen have to pay for checks and to get into the file.

When users in San Francisco enter a Google search with words like “clogged toilet,” “cleaner,” or “locksmith,” they’re immediately presented with a list of approved, local workers who are able to take on the jobs in question. . Users can interact with the workers without leaving Google’s site.

According to Google, the professionals are trusted, experienced and certified. Google checks this itself, and the professionals foot the bill. The feature is part of the Adwords Express small business program, reports The Wall Street Journal. According to a Google spokesperson, support is now available for plumbers, handymen, cleaners, and locksmiths. Users can easily contact multiple handymen at the same time and write reviews.

Just last month there was news that Google had hired the staff of the start-up Homejoy. That company specialized in linking customer and cleaner via the internet. Google has picked up about twenty technicians from that company. Google is going to compete with Amazon Home Services, Angie’s List and Yelp with this move. These services are currently not offered in the Benelux.
