Google introduces live sharing for YouTube and Spotify in Google Meet
Google is updating its video calling app Meet so that users of the app can share streaming sessions via YouTube and Spotify with each other. It will also be possible to play games with other users in real time via the app.
The feature to share streaming sessions with each other is a beta feature. In addition, each conversation member who wishes to join a session must have a Spotify Premium subscription. It is not clear whether this is also the case for YouTube. As for games, only Heads Up!, Uno Mobile and Kahoot are supported. It is not clear if and when more games will be added.
Through the planned update The Meet app also makes it possible to schedule recurring meetings with others. Just before video calling, a screen will also appear that will allow users to change their virtual background before joining a video call via Meet. Google is also introducing a chat function that allows comments or questions to be sent via text during video calling.
The American company announced in early June that it would merge video calling app Duo with Meet. This makes Meet the company’s default video chat and calling app. At the end of July, Google also made it possible to live-steam video calls in Meet on YouTube. This feature is available to most paid Workspace users.
