Google has added the Camera Go app to its collection of apps for the Go edition of Android. The app should provide good photo quality on smartphones with below-average hardware specs. There are now more than a hundred million Android Go devices active.

The Camera Go app is “deeply integrated into the phone’s camera module and is not just a photo filter,” according to Google. It is a lightweight app with a simple interface that would take good quality photos “without users having to worry about speed or storage”.

Among other things, there is a portrait mode. In addition, the app indicates how many photos and video time the user has left and when the limit is reached, the app helps to free up storage. The first smartphone that can run the app is the Nokia 1.3 that HMD announced on Thursday. It will be released in April for 99 euros.

Camera Go appears in addition to existing lightweight apps from Google for the Go edition of Android, such as Go Gallery, which shows the gallery of photos on a device. At the same time as the announcement, Google announced that there are now 100 million smartphones with Android Go active.
