“Google integrates content from Newsstand and YouTube in News service”
Google is said to be working on a new version of News, which includes content from the digital magazine service Newsstand and video site YouTube. It is not yet clear what the new service will look like.
Ad Age reports this on the basis of unnamed sources who are said to be familiar with the plans. The new version of News could be shown at Google’s own I/O developer conference; Google I/O is next Tuesday through Friday at Mountain View, near Google’s headquarters.
According to the sources, a new version of News will be released, including an improved app. Content from Newsstand, the unpopular service for digital magazines, would be incorporated in this, after which Newsstand itself will cease to exist. Videos from YouTube would also be integrated into News. And to load the whole faster, use would be made of amp, or Accelerated Mobile Pages, which Google already uses to speed up the display of web pages.
Google News now mainly shows links to news pages about a certain topic, similar to how the search engine of the internet giant works. According to an anonymous source of Ad Age, the new version should bring all news content that can be found on Google’s various platforms under one roof.
