Google improves data saving in Chrome for Android
Google is working on improving the Data Saver option in the Android version of Chrome. After the update, the option should be able to save up to 70 percent in data usage by not loading images when the connection is slow.
The current version of the Data Saver feature is available in Chrome for iOS, Android and the desktop variants, but the improved version is only coming to the Android app for now. This is evident from the announcement by Tal Oppenheimer, product manager of the Chrome team, on the Google Chrome blog.
When users set the feature, compression is applied to limit data traffic. With a slow connection, the function will take more rigorous measures. With the current version of Data Saver, this can result in blurry images because they don’t load completely; after the update most images will not load at all. After the page has loaded, users can choose to load all images or a single copy.
According to Oppenheimer, the enhanced mode is capable of saving up to 70 percent in data usage. Users in India and Indonesia will get the new functionality first, with more countries to follow in the coming months.
