Google has made some innovations to Chome for Windows, which the company says has improved its antivirus capabilities. For example, there is now an option that allows Chrome to detect whether certain settings have been modified by a malicious extension.

In case, for example, certain browser settings in Chrome such as the default search engine or homepage have been changed unsolicited by unwanted or malicious extensions, Chrome will recognize this and ask the user to reset the settings to the original values.

In addition, Chrome’s built-in software removal tool Cleanup has been improved. This tool warns if unwanted software is detected and offers the option to remove the unwanted software and reset Chrome to its default settings. Chrome Cleanup has received a new interface that should make it easier to use and make it clearer which software is being removed.

Google says it has improved the technology behind Chrome Cleanup together with security company ESET. For example, the ESET detection engine was used in combination with the sandbox in Google Chrome. According to Google, more unwanted software can now be removed. Incidentally, this is limited to software that violates Google’s policy on unwanted software.

Google says it has already started rolling out these innovations to Chrome for Windows users. The new features are likely to be available in the next few days.
