Google has sold 30 million Chromecast devices, CEO Sundar Pichai announced in response to the quarterly figures of parent company Alphabet. As far as hardware is concerned, Google will mainly focus on the ecosystem around Home.

Last May, Google announced that it had sold 25 million Chromecasts. Pichai made his comments while discussing Alphabet’s second quarter 2016 numbers, Seeking Alpha’s transcript shows. He talked about setting up a team on hardware strategy, and according to Pichai, Google is taking a cautious approach in this area. There have been rumors about this before.

Google’s parent company Alphabet classifies the result of its hardware sales as ‘other revenues’ and the turnover from this increased by 33 percent to 2.17 billion dollars, converted to 1.96 billion euros. For example, ‘other revenues’ also include enterprise income and that from the Play Store. ‘Other revenues’ now accounts for 11 percent of total revenue.

Alphabet’s total revenue rose 24 percent to $21.5 billion. Alphabet’s ‘other bets’ recorded $185 million in revenue and an operating loss of $859 million, compared to $660 million a year ago. This includes the expensive projects of which it is not certain if and when they will ever make a profit, such as the autonomous driving cars, Fiber and Loon.
