Google has shipped five million Cardboard glasses
Google has shipped five million copies of its Cardboard virtual reality glasses. That has been announced by the search company. A total of 25 million apps have been downloaded from the Play Store for use with Cardboard.
It can be deduced from this that the search company has supplied four million VR glasses in the past eight months, because in May Google reported sales of one million. Users have now taken 750,000 VR photos with the Cardboard Camera app, which was released last month, Google says. The most popular app is Chair in a Room, a first-person horror story in VR.
Google first released Cardboard, a cardboard VR headset, in 2014 as a gift to people attending its I/O developer conference. Since then, various models of Cardboard glasses have gone on sale. Cardboard works with almost all modern Android smartphones and iPhones.
